Abstract: In [2], Bacaër was interested in the date of the epidemic peak (which corresponds to the date when the number of infected people reaches its maximum) in the S-I-R model of Kermack and McKendrick ([1], chapter 18). He shows that the epidemic peak occurs at time T such that T ~ (lnN)/(a-b), where N is the population size, a is the effective contact rate and b is the recovery rate, with the assumption a > b.
